Once Upon a Time, Zee Designs Creates Websites...
In the Spring of 1998, Zee Designs was encouraged - okay pushed and threatened - by their friends at wizard.com to develop websites. At that time, only programmers were creating websites and most without much talent for design and organization of materials. Programmers could make websites work, they just didn't have much experience making websites appealing for the visitors. Our friends remarked, "You've been creating projects for print for so long, you know how to create good-looking, organized projects. There isn't anyone who has your talent, organizational skills, experience and sense of business we can confidently refer our clients to who need a website." Wow wee what a compliment!
We called our friend Jeanne Quinn of Next of Quinn who was the only other person we knew dabling in creating a website. Partners in Innovative Quality Software, they needed a website and she was the one to jump in and create it. She showed us thorough insight to Front Page and we were not impressed. On her software-to-install shelf she had the next website authoring program she intended to learn - Net Objects Fusion (NOF). She explained how impressed she was with the demo and about the important HTML editing features that were not available in FP. We went home and downloaded a trial version of the program. We too were very impressed. So, we held our breath; spent a gastly amount of money acquiring the software, hardware and training we needed; read for hours, weeks, months learning about the complete picture of creating and publishing websites; and dove in to our first project.
Our first project was for the Nevada Reflexology Organization (NRO) which we were members of. It was a volunteer projects which meant we could do whatever we wished. Our office was receiving a half dozen or more calls a week from folks asking the same questions over and over again. Once the website was built, we were able to redirect those calls to the website and found we might get a couple calls a month. Every now and then an email inquiry would come through and we would add that question and answer to the FAQs (frequently asked questions) page on the website. It was wonderful!
Needless to say, one website lead to the next and the next. We became intimate friends with the technical support staff at NOF and acquired lots of specialized training in many areas website development and support. Before we knew it our business was becoming more in demand for website projects than print.
By Spring of 1999, only one year from our start, we were pushing the envelope to meet our clients' demands and started integrating websites with database applications. Our first experience was with Cold Fusion and Access. Yup, it was a learning experience! Realizing we needed something more flexible, reliable, fast and friendlier to work with, we researched other options. We were very fortunate to speak with folks who really grasped our vision and gave us valuable feedback, often times reaching those who actually founded and developed the development applications we were considering. Eventually, we decided the combination of PHP and MySQL was the most empowering way to build our dynamic database-driven websites. We continue to develop with this foundation combination today.
In June of 2000, we started developing our first module which eventually lead to the development of our Content Management System (CMS). Several programmers, versions, modules and web applications later, we developed the most empowering team ever in October of 2004. By now we had learned so much it was time to start fresh. In just six months we launched our present version of the ZD-CMS and in November of 2005, we added an additional talented programmer to our team.
March of 2006 finds us upgrading all our web authoring tools to those offered by Macromedia. We still create message-driven print media, of course. For our clients, this means we continue to create the most well-made products available in the market today.
The ZD-CMS continues to grow in leaps and bounds with every client request along with, of course, our own inspirations. The complexity, diversity and power of the modules and web applications we continue to develop is inspiring and amazing. It is completely and significantly gratifying to be part of the joy in our clients' lives and in the jobs they do because of the interactive solutions we've created.
So what does the future bring? In fulfilling the requests of our clients, we are:
